Wines of Audacity

Domaine Perganson produces an evolving range of vibrant, creative wines… micro-cuvees, innovative wines, rare grape varieties, audacious blends, natural wines, wines with no added sulphites… Each wine is born of the pioneering spirit of the people that work in the vines and make the wine… the fruit of an experiment, an idea, a test, a prototype, a vision. Instilled with the greatest respect for nature and the importance of adapting to its rhythm, they are the champions of less is more.

There are six classic Bordeaux varieties authorised in the Haut-Médoc appellation – Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere. Our 4-hectare parcel situated at Cussac in the sector known as “Bois de L’Eglise” contains the first five of these, planted together on a well-draining soil of fine gravel.

Normally harvested over a period of three weeks because of the different rates of ripening of each variety, this parcel was picked in its entirety in a single day thanks to the extremely favourable weather conditions and the perfect maturity of all of these grapes at the same time.

We were being offered the rare opportunity to test, here in the Médoc, the unique practice inspired by the long history of wines through antiquity of mixing the grapes from a single terroir and blending them in the same fermentation vat.

Incredible and unexpected!  A daring move, motivated by the quest for diversity in an alternative vision of blending, where man gives the terroir centre stage.

This unexpected (“inattendu” in French) synergy will delight all those who are curious of palate… and inspired by cultural innovation.
