Official selection of Crus Bourgeois of the Médoc 2019: The Grand Tasting

CRUS BOURGEOIS 2020
NEW CLASSIFICATION

HOW THE NEW CLASSIFICATION IS STRUCTURED

The Crus Bourgeois classification has been a particularity of Bordeaux wines, and more precisely the wines of the Médoc, since 1932. It gives recognition to quality wines and covers 8 Médoc appellations.

On the initiative of the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc, the new 2020 classification was created to bring greater clarity to a dense market where great price differences can exist within the same appellation. This new hierarchy is composed of three levels of certification “cru bourgeois exceptionnel”, “cru bourgeois supérieur” and “cru bourgeois”, that are valid for five years from the 2018 vintage.

This new classification therefore concerns the vintages from 2018 to 2022.

This Crus Bourgeois classification is based on an analysis by a jury of experts of performance criteria for each Cru in the following categories:

Blind tasting of five vintages from 2008 to 2016 to establish average wine quality.

The quality of environmental and cultural practices and the Cru’s commitment to sustainable viticulture.

Vineyard management, parcel traceability, and ageing and storing conditions, with emphasis on the optimisation of the Cru’s quality and typicity at every stage.

Promotion of the Cru – general presentation of the estate, quality of reception, image and notoriety.
